During the May 9, 2024 meeting of the USPS Board of Governors, Postmaster General DeJoy enumerated the many successes and accomplishments of the US Postal Service over the last year. Those included new delivery vehicles, progress in sustainability, and new sorting facilities. He followed that information by saying that along the journey there are failures as well. “And why wouldn’t there be,” he said, “considering the magnitude of the transformation we are undertaking and the devastating trajectory we are trying to change.” He believes the Delivering for America Plan is the best plan the Postal Service has had in many years, and it is the best path forward for the USPS.
Following DeJoy’s presentation, the members of the Board of Governors were asked for comments. Mr. Ronald Stroman, BOG Member, and former Deputy Postmaster General commented on the importance of integrating the two streams of mail – first class mail and packages. He discussed the new hub and spoke delivery system, saying it has been proven effective by many companies. However, he said, he felt that slowing further network changes and using that time to re-examine USPS plans is the responsible next step.
