Washington Post columnist Jacob Bogage writes that the USPS Board of Governors is expected to name FedEx board member and former Waste Management CEO David Steiner as the nation’s next postmaster general. His information comes from unidentified people familiar with the decision.
Brian Renfroe of the National Association of Letter Carriers sees the appointment of a candidate from FedEx as a “Push to hand business over to private shippers.” He calls it an “attempt at a hostile takeover of a beloved American institution…”
Bogage said that according to insiders three finalists had been referred for approval from the White House. David Steiner, Jim Cochrane – the head of the package Shippers Association, and William Zollars – a former postal governor and president of YRC, a trucking company.
