On October 12, 2016 the US Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) of a price increase for letters. Rates would be raised from $.47 to $.49 for a 1 oz. letter. The price increase is scheduled to take effect on January 22, 2017. The price of additional ounces, letters to international destinations and postcards will not increase.
Current First-Class Mail prices for these products compared to proposed increases are:
Letters (1 oz.) 47 cents 49 cents
Letters Additional Ounces 21 cents 21 cents
Letters to all international destinations $1.15 $1.15
Postcards 34 cents 34 cents
The PRC ‘s approval is required prior to a price increase becoming effective.
