On January 13, 2021 Representative Stephen Lynch introduced House Resolution 47, which seeks to avoid privatization of the US Postal Service. The Resolution has been referred to the Committee on Oversight and Reform.
The Resolution reads, “Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress should take all appropriate measures to ensure that the United States Postal Service remains an independent establishment of the Federal Government and is not subject to privatization …”

A Resolution is used for just the House, or just the Senate. It must be agreed to in the Chamber in which it is introduced. It is not voted on in the other Chamber and does not have the force of law.
