If H.R. 3333 is passed into law, relocation of a US Post office will require written approval of local governments. Representative Doug Collins (GA-9) introduced “The Community Post Office Act,” in the House of Representatives on June 19, 2019. Current law requires community input when Post Office locations are closed or consolidated. But the law does not currently impose the same requirements for Post Office relocations.
H.R. 3333 proposes to amend the US Code by requiring the USPS to give local governments a minimum of 30 days to review and comment on a proposed Post Office relocation and a list of the proposed sites for such relocation. For the relocation to occur, the local government would need to give its written approval of both the relocation and the proposed site.
