May 13, 2024 – Postmaster General Louis Dejoy has written a letter to Senator Gary Peters of Michigan agreeing to a temporary halt to changes in mail distribution until January of 2025.
DeJoy said that he recognizes Senators are concerned about Mail Processing Facility Reviews (MFPRs), which the USPS is undertaking at 60 facilities. These reviews are intended to determine if processing of originating mail should be moved to fewer regional plants.
In addition, DeJoy has agreed to consider whether the USPS should seek an Advisory Opinion from the Postal Regulatory Commission.
DeJoy plans to continue to sell the benefits of the Delivering for America Plan. He is optimistic that additional time will aid the legislators in seeing the benefits of the 10-year plan.
