The AUSPL PAC continues to prove its value by getting AUSPL leadership in front of legislators involved in postal reform
AUSPL President Mark Dattel and Harry Glenn met on Monday, May 17 with Senator Gary Peters, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. Senator Peters gave a preview of the postal reform legislation being prepared by the Senate. He said the Senate bill tracked closely with the House bill and could be introduced later in the week. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio has agreed to be the lead Republican cosponsor.
On Thursday, S. 1720, the Senate version of postal reform was introduced. The bill includes elimination of the prefunding requirement for retirees and requires them to enroll in Medicare. The Postal Service estimates a $46 billion savings from these two changes alone over the next ten years.
The bill, introduced by Democrats, already has 10 Republican supporters, and chances of passing are strong.
