On February 8, 2024, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy presented his report to the Postal Service Board of Governors on USPS operations.
During his presentation he discussed several important topics, including the following points:
USPS Headquarters in Washington, DC
- The USPS plans to open more than 40 Sorting and Distribution Centers (S&DCs) in 2024 – adding to the 29 S&DCs opened in 2023.
- As part of the modernization of the USPS vehicle fleet, approximately 30,000 new vehicles will be purchased in 2024. Ten thousand of these will be electric vehicles.
- During the 2023 peak season, the USPS handled 7% more in package volume than it did during the 2022 peak season.
- For most of the nation, the USPS provided stable delivery performance for the last quarter and during peak busy season.
- The USPS has announced sustainability targets which have been created to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase environmental awareness throughout the Postal Service.
DeJoy stressed the importance to the USPS of reducing costs, modernizing operations, developing sustainability practices, and improving delivery performance.
