PMG DeJoy with Rep. Sessions and Rep. Comer prior to testifying before the House Oversight Committee.

DeJoy testified before the House Oversight Committee on the Discovering For America Plan (DFA) today (May 17, 2023).

While most of the conversation focused on safety of the mail and mail carriers, as well as the financial condition of the USPS. Rep. Rebecca Balint from Vermont specifically asked about the retail postal facilities.  With the launching of Sorting and Delivery Centers, retail facilities will lose backend operations to the large facilities.  Ms. Balint said that many Vermonters fear that the opening of these Centers is a first step toward closing local post offices.  She asked, “Will your plan result in reductions to retail operations or hours of service?”  In response Postmaster General DeJoy said, “It will not result in reductions to retail and operations.”

Additionally, Rep. Balint pressed to make sure Mr. DeJoy understood that rural America is in a very different situation from other parts of America and needs a vibrant Postal Service, regardless of how many people are in that area.    Mr. DeJoy reported a strong commitment to rural America.
