The USPS plans to roll out new postal delivery vehicles in January of 2022, per the USPS OIG . Since 2015, the USPS, along with vehicle manufacturers, has worked to develop a Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV). Introduction of NGDVs was originally projected for 2018 or 2019, however multiple delays have pushed the date back.
These NGDVs will replace the current fleet of Long Life Vehicles (LLV). The LLVs are between 25 and 32 years old – well beyond the projected service life of 24 years. Because of age, LLVs require extensive and expensive maintenance. Additionally, these older vehicles lack air conditioning, and are inadequate to tackle the increase in package mail.
Will these new electric vehicles require charging stations. Who will this affect lease holders?
We will have to see how this works out. It is currently just one of the options for new vehicles.
