Louis DeJoy has asked the Postal Service Board of Governors to start looking for his successor.
DeJoy said, “After four and half years leading one of America’s greatest public institutions through dramatic change during unusual times, it is time for me to start thinking about the next phase of my life, while also ensuring that the Postal Service is fully prepared for the future.”
DeJoy’s stated goal is to modernize the US Postal Service and to make it profitable after years of huge financial losses. His 10-year plan, Delivering for America, included plans to streamline the delivery process and lower costs. In addition, the USPS has been in the process of investing $40 billion into its infrastructure and delivery vehicles.
DeJoy and the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) have been at odds the entire course of his tenure as PMG. Each blaming the other for difficulties in the Postal Service. Recently the PRC has criticized DeJoy’s efforts as showing little evidence that they would succeed.
