Hundreds of American companies, trade associations and consumer advocacy organizations have sent a letter to Congress asking for emergency funding for the USPS in the next Coronavirus Relief Package. “The Postal Service is the backbone of businesses large and small in America, and must endure,” the letter states.
The variety of ways the USPS is serving the American people during this pandemic are listed in the letter. Included are delivery of prescriptions, groceries and other staples, and how the USPS is enabling businesses to survive the pandemic through remote order and fulfillment. The letter specifically brings attention to the importance of the US Postal Service to rural America.
“It [the USPS] is of particularly acute need in rural areas of the country, where there are no alternatives, and often not even broadband. USPS is a lifeline there and elsewhere throughout the country during these challenging times”.
